Azerbaijan: Public Investment Capacity Building
Project
IDA Credit: US$8 million Terms: Maturity = 20 years; Grace period = 10 years Project ID: P115396
Project Description: The project’s key objective is to
improve the quality and efficiency of preparation and implementation of
investment projects in key priority sectors, especially infrastructure. The
project is designed to provide training both in modern project management
techniques, and highly specialized technical education in selected sectors.
Special attention will be paid to measuring the impact of the project
activities, and annual training plans will be realigned based on evaluation of
training and capacity needs.
Azerbaijan: Additional Financing for Second Highway
Project

Project Description: This financing will continue the Bank’s
road program in the country to enable it to become a regional transit point and
promote local development. Specifically, the financing will support
rehabilitation of the Hajigabul – Bahramtepe road connecting an important
agricultural region in the South West of Azerbaijan–home to significant portion
of the country’s population–with the main urban centers. In addition to rehabilitating
116 km of highway, the project will support the improvement of about 200 km of
local roads connecting the highway with nearby villages.
India: Second Madhya Pradesh District Poverty
Initiatives Project (MPDPIP-II)

Project Description: The Second Madhya Pradesh District Poverty
Initiatives Project for India aims to improve the capacity and
opportunities for the targeted rural poor to achieve sustainable livelihoods.
There are four components to the project, the first component being social
empowerment and institution building. The objective of this component is to
empower the poor by helping to organize themselves into Self-Help Groups (SHG)
and federate into higher levels of institutions such as Village Development
Committee (VDC), cluster-level organizations, and producer collectives. The
second component is the livelihoods investment support. The objective of this
component is to develop the capacity of SHG to start livelihood initiatives,
and to strengthen their business operations through producer based federations.
Mechanisms to identify and support innovative approaches to help the rural poor
to organize themselves around livelihood based businesses will also be
supported in this component. The third component is the employment promotion
support. The objective of this component is to enable the project beneficiaries
to capture new employment opportunities arising out of the overall growth of
the Indian economy through the establishment of a structured mechanism for

Project Description: The Increased Access to Modern Energy
Project for Benin aims to improve reliability, efficiency, and access to
modern energy services in Benin. There are three components to the project, the
first component being electrical network upgrading. The second, upgrading of
the network, will enable the expansion of the network for further
electrification. Finally, measures to enhance lighting and appliance efficiency
implemented under this component will help reduce peak load and energy
consumption, extend the provision of modern energy services in rural areas and

Congo: HIV/AIDS and Health Project [Additional
Financing]

Project Description: The HIV/AIDS and Health Project for
Congo aims to contribute to the recipient's effort: (a) to limit the spread
of HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs); (b) to mitigate the
health and socioeconomic impact of HIV/AIDS and STIs on persons infected with
or affected by HIV/AIDS and STIs; and (c) to build strong and sustainable
national capacity to respond to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The purpose of the
additional financing is to: (i) refocus the project on priority interventions
to respond to evidence on the drivers of the epidemic; (ii) scale up activities
targeting higher-risk and vulnerable population groups; (iii) build capacity
for sustainability and incorporate lessons of experience; and (iv) leverage
additional government and donor funding and apply the Bank's global knowledge

Sri Lanka: Health Sector Development Project

Project Description: The Additional Financing to the Health Sector
Development Project for Sri Lanka will further support to the Government of
Sri Lanka’s ongoing health service delivery program, with particular emphasis
on the special health needs in the north and east arising out of the recent
conflict. Half the project funds ($12 million) will be allocated to the
conflict-affected Northern and Eastern Provinces. The project will continue to
support decentralization of health service delivery, including strengthening of
district and provincial capacity for planning and implementation of health
programs. It will also support efforts to improve service delivery and renovate
health facilities, provide training for health workers, and provision of
